I also noticed this advert in the railway station and in magazines. The main reasons why I considered this image to be alienating were:

1 It is a very dramatic picture indeed

2 I wondered whether it was really necessary to start a campaign with such an emotional message about a problem that seems to me rather marginal.

To be able to accept the message, I needed something like numbers, to prove the urgency of the campaign. These were not on the poster advert. Whether they were on the TV commercial, I do not know, for I never saw it.

I think it is crucial as well to inform employees about long-term goals of the company. If management remains silent about important changes in future, this may cause misunderstanding and distrust. Being able to see the big picture is very stimulating to involved workers. I know, it seems obvious, but in companies with hierarchical management structures things like this tend to be forgotten.

Welcome to the community!
It has been two months since I joined Navajo BBDO for my internship, and I have to say this is the branch of communications I was looking for during my studies.
I hope you will share the same enjoy as I am experiencing at BBDO.

@ Laura Moerman. I am not (or no longer) a politician - I immediately contacted De Morgen to explain them (again) the situation. Sloppy journalists! I use FB to connect with old friends and collegues. Besided this I do not believe FB is a goodcampaign tool, as I already argumented on... FB.

I would like to add, that it is important to know where your bloggers are, as it is obvious that they will not only be blogging on your website, but mainly on sites you cannot control directly. Of course this depends on the field in which your company is active. Anticipating on relevant blogspots and monitoring them are crucial in case of an emerging issue.

I don't think it is only a question of taste. My main criticism on this new logo is that it has absolutely no connection with Ghent, in contrast to the former logo of the town (the one with the 3 towers). It could just as well be used for any other town.
The city is trying to make it their own by adapting it to certain events or situations, like they did for Flikkenparty.
I find it even more disappointing no reaction came to the protests on Gentblogt and on Facebook, whereas Ghent is putting so much effort in getting in touch with its inhabitants.

I think the action of the Fiat-employees causes dangerous precedents. Luckily the trade unions ACV and ABVV condemned these kinds of actions (De Morgen, 11 April 2009).
But I feel the companies are responsible as well. By not listening to their employees' complaints earlier they are pushing them into taking extreme actions.

Paying by mobile phone is indeed growing business. It was amazing how popular it was to pay the parking spots just by sending a text message to the company that is responsible for the parking meters. Only in March, 165,000 times the parking spot was paid by text message. Apparently, the supplement of 0.15 euro doesn’t matter: it is the comfort that counts.

On their website, Joods Actueel has published that they are surprised by the press release on the Vlaamse Opera. They reject that they have reacted angrily. Instead, they say they have only reflected critically on the matter, which they apparently have done more than once lately.
